Hello Allan,
The GATE website says that it works with gcc3.2 and 4.1 because they are the
only versions that were tested.
But without too much risks, it should work with the latest versions of gcc.
I am currently running GATE on Ubuntu8.04 with gcc4.2.3 and it works great,
there is no difference compared to the 4.1 version of gcc.
So I think you don't really need to downgrade your gcc, maybe you will just
have a bit more warning compiling GATE and stuff.
