thank you very much for your help!
Unfortunately, I think this might not be possible in my case.
I want to simulate CT projections and use a general particle source (GPS) where I directly have to give it the number of primaries.
Besides I also think I cannot substitute the GPS with an activity source because I am using Gatelab, which (as I understood it) necessitates the use of the command 'setTotalNumberOfPrimaries'.

Dear Tom,
I had this problem too. I solved it by combining time and source activity.
If you want 3600000000 particles you can use 100 ΜΒq activity for 36 seconds (or any other combination).
Comment the line (you don't need it):
#/gate/application/setTotalNumberOfPrimaries 3600000000 to run the simulation.
