Hello Adolf,

Yes, you could use the root data to reconstruct an image from the 
simulated acquisition. There are several free softwares available for 
image reconstruction if you don't have your own reconstruction code. You 
could try to use CASToR <http://castor-project.org/> which implements 
several tools to reconstruct SPECT datasets simulated with GATE. You 
will first have to create a CASToR datafile from the root output using 
the /castor-GATERootToCastor/ executable.

I attached two example scripts for the conversion and reconstruction of 
the GATE SPECT benchmark dataset. You can launch them from the 
benchSPECT directory.
