Dear Paulo, Maybe you did source geant4make.sh which is found in the
install directory (set when you build geant4) and therefore your Geant4
environmental variables are not set.
For me I put in my .bashrc a line: "source
/usr/local/share/Geant4-10.2.2/geant4make/geant4make.sh"

Then for me $G4INSTALL is set to /usr/local/share/Geant4-10.2.2/geant4make .
Then when you "make", the program (GNUmakefile, in the .../example/basic/B1
directory) will use any *.gmk found in $G4INSTALL/config :
