[Gate-users] meaning of special cuts commands

Cut = production cut: you will produce only particle having a range larger than the cut value, however these particle will be tracked down to 0 energy.
MinRemainingRange (or kinetic energy) means that you will stop tracking particles below this threshold.
It might make sense to define cuts (at the particle generation level) and special cuts (at the tracking level) with the same value (I personally do that), but it depends on what you want to simulate exactly.
Cheers,
LG

Thanks Loic,
Do you know the meaning of min remaining range?
Best regards,
Cheng

Hi Cheng,
You right, below MinRange or MinEnergy, the tracking of the particle is stopped and energy is deposited locally.
Geant4 uses "cuts" in distance: as you define geometries in mm/cm, it is easier to define consistent "cuts" in distances.
However, there is obviously a correlation between particle range and particle kinetic energy and if preferred, you can use "cuts" in energy.
This is also useful for cross comparisons with other MC codes which define "cuts" in energy only.
Hope this helps.

Dear all,
I want to use special cuts to increase the speed of simulations, but not really sure the meaning of two commands, could anyone explain to me about them? Thanks in advance!
What is the min kinetic energy? does that mean if the energy of a particle lower than this value, it would stop and be absorbed?
And what is the min remaining range?
Best regards,
Cheng
