Dear Lars

you cannot login as root using the su command.

However you can use the sudo command before any other command that requires administrator permissions.
For example you can use sudo before your mount command or to edit the /etc/fstab mount config file

sudo nano /etc/fstab -- to edit the fstab config file you need root provileges...

In that case you will be prompted with a password and that one is "virtual".

Hope that answers your question and solves your issue

Regards
Nicolas

Nicolas,

  Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately, it did not work for me (see attached screenshot).

That password gets me logged in, but it did not get me su/root.

  Thanks again.

  Regards,

  Lars

To Whom it May Concern,

I’ve been trying to enable file transfer between my virtual machine running vGATE (linux, Ubutnu) and my host machine running Windows.

I have created a shared file in the virtual machine, and then I was attempting to mount this file from within linux. However, the mount command requires root/su, which I do not have.

  Any suggestions?

  Thanks in advance.

  Lars Ewell
