Did you uninstall Root recently?

In that case most likely the proper cure would be to install Root
again (and depending on configuration you might need to reinstall
Geant4 and Gate as well).

(Another possibility is that you previously had some environmental
variables set that helped Gate find the root installation, maybe you
were loading some shell script before running Gate. In that case you
need to figure out how you were setting those variables earlier.)
