[gate-users] Compiling G4 with Fedora 3

I am having trouble compiling G4 5.2 with Fedora 3.  I suspect that this is because it suggests compiling with gcc 3.2 and Fedora 3 has gcc 3.4.2.  Is there any way around this discrepancy in compiler versions?  Any help is appreciated.  Thank you.
