[Gate-users] errors in switching materials

Hi Abdalmajeid,


Your schemes for assigning standard or newly created materials to (daughter) volumes all look fine to me. Do you also get the error if you completely omit the dose actor?


We can really help you much more effectively if you send us (a version of) your macro with which we can reproduce the error that you are reporting.

The error I'm getting looks a common error and has nothing to do with file output format. I'm not using a different output format. I'm only using doseActor with mhd file format.  Another thing is that if I  switch the materials around the mac works fine.!!!

For instance the mac works in only the following two cases

Case 1:
Assign a material B (Air) to the world
Assign a material A ( newly defined material) to the daughter X of world
Assign a material C (newly defined material) to the daughter Y of X (mother)
Assign a material A ( newly defined material) to the daughter Z of Y

case 2:
Assign a material A (newly defined material) to the world
Assign a material B (Air) to the daughter X of world
Assign a material C (newly defined material) to the daughter Y of X (mother)
Assign a material A to the daughter Z of Y

The mac does NOT work if
Assign a material B (Air) to the world
Assign a material B ( Air ) to the daughter X of world
Assign a material C (newly defined material) to the daughter Y of X (mother)
Assign a material A ( newly defined material) to the daughter Z of Y

Are there conditions rules on creating new materials other than the one in the documentation manual?

Any help or hints is greatly appreciated

The error message looks like something that has nothing to do with materials, but rather with the image format that you would like to read from or write to.


Could you send us the actual macro file that is giving you this error?
