[Gate-users] TPS pencil beam source

Dear Zhang Hui,
When you say that you “set” the energy spread I guess you are referring to the parameters in your source_description_file and I think that’s the key. I have the feeling that you are confusing the parameters of the polynomial description in your source_description file with the beam parameter that you want to set. For example, if you have something like:
# energy spread
# polynomial order
1
# polynomial parameters
0.1
0
it means that you are setting 10% of your energy value as energy spread. This is because, with the previous polynomial description, you are actually telling to the code the following:
> Energy spread = 0.1*Energy value + 0
Remember, in the source_description_file you always set the parameters of the polynomial description for a specific beam parameter, not the beam parameter itself.
If you want to set 0.1% as energy spread you indeed need something like:
# energy spread
# polynomial order
1
# polynomial parameters
0.001
0
…as you have already found out on your own :)
Hope it can help
Best
Alessio

Dear Elia Alessio,
Thanks for your reply! In source_description_file, I want to set the energy spread with the 0.1% of mean energy. In users guide, it says that mean energy in MeV and energy spread in % of the mean energy. So, I set it with 0.1. However, when I simulate it on GATE8.0, it doesn't work while it is working on GATE7.2. When I set it with 0.001, it works. In GATE7.2, both of them works.
The error is like that:[cid:image001.gif at 01D301EA.0331B280]
I want to know in GATE8.0, if I want to simulate the energy spread with 0.1% of the mean energy, how can I do? What dose it mean for 0.1? 0.1 of the mean energy or 0.1% the mean energy? Thanks again.

主题: RE: [Gate-users] TPS pencil beam source
Dear Zhang Hui,
as reported in the wiki, the plan description file contains information about the plan, like number of fields, gantry angle for each field, energy of each layer from each field, number of spot in each layer, spot description (position in x- and y- direction at isocenter and intensity) for each spot from each layer. Some of the parameters implemented in the plan description file are not used directly by the Gate source code as either not useful for the simulation or not implemented yet (like for example the PatientSupportAngle). There are a lot of parameters described in this file and all of them are coming from typical dicom RTplan file. For a further description about them maybe you can have a look to some dicom RTplan file (they are standard type therefore the tags are always the same) and look at the description of the parameters directly from there.
As a general comment, you are right, at the moment a detailed description of what is read and what is not (parameter by parameter) is actually missing in the wiki. The description about the source_description_file could be also improved. Maybe you can specify what is not exactly clear to you so far?
Hope it can help!
Cheers,
Alessio

Dear Gaters,
I'm using TPS pencil beam source to simulate active beam scanning delivery techniques with carbon ion. I'm confused about the descriptions of source_description_file and plan_description_file in users guide. The descriptions are too brief especially about plan_description_file. In example/example_Radiotherapy/example5/data/PlanDescriptionToGATE.txt, there are many comments with 'CURRENTLY THIS VALUE IS NOT USED'. Dose anyone know the detail description about them? Thank you!
