[Gate-users] A question regarding the surface setting for optical photon detection

Dear all,

I am constructing a simple optical simulation using GATE v7.0 to analyse
the propagation of light in medium.

The geometrical structure of the simulation is as following:

Scintillation Crystal -> Medium -> Detection Panel

There are three separate volumes and they are contained in a big volume
called 'module'. I am using the Scanner geometry. I attached module and the
detection panel. Basically,a gamma ray photon comes into the crystal, and
then scintillation photons propagates through the medium.

Here is where I have a question.
The surface condition for the detection of optical photons at the detection
panel, I set perfect_apd conditions in two different ways:
1. Medium -> Detection Panel
2. Module -> Detection Panel

When I do like 1, the shape of the optical beam look like a doughnut (few
photons are detected in the center) which is not naturally understandable.
But when I do like 2, the shape of the optical beam look like exactly what
I had expected to.

>From what I understood from the opengate wiki user guide, method 1 should
give the correct result..but it doesn't.
Could anyone help me to understand this problem?

Best regards,

Jisoo Kim
