[Gate-users] Source am-241 how to add?

Hello MIchal,
There was some discussion about the ion source option not too long ago on the Gate mailing list, search for the subject "SPECT with I-123 and In-111”. There you will find Uwe Pietrzyk's answer on how to define an ion source, for example the energy should be set to 0 MeV.

Also, make sure that you have the Geant4 radioactive decay files, http://geant4.web.cern.ch/geant4/support/download.shtml

Apparently, the energy of the alpha particles in the radioactive decay are calculated incorrectly. Though, I haven’t simulated Am-241 using the radioactive decay function so I can’t tell if this is true for Am-241 or not. A heads-up, just in case.

Dear Michal,

to use an “ion” source in Gate 7, where the use of “PhysicsList"
is recommended, you need to add the extra instruction for the
radioactive decay as you can see in the following two lines:

# P H Y S I C S

/gate/physics/addPhysicsList emstandard
/gate/physics/addProcess RadioactiveDecay

This is how I succeeded to use radio nuclides of different kind
in the EduGATE/Spectro example.
