[Gate-users] Absorption length in optical transport

Hello forum,

I have a question regarding the absorption length used in the optical transport. 

Is the distance an optical photon travels in a medium sampled before the transport begins? So, when the optical photon is transported through a medium it will be killed after travelling the sampled distance?
