[Gate-users] Questions about the example in the users guide

Hi Victor!

When I input "/gate/systems/cylindricalPET/module/attach box2 vglue 0.2cm",
it shows:
==================
[G4-cerr] [GateSystemComponentMessenger]:
[G4-cerr] could not find a volume creator for the name 'box2 vglue 0.2cm'
[G4-cerr] Attachment request will be ignored!
==================

There was a typo in the documentation. There should be no "vglue 0.2cm" at the end of the line. I fixed the wiki. The same typo showed up on the line with the /attachCrystalSD line; I also fixed it.

When I input "/gate/source/twogamma/gps/confine NULL", it shows:
==================
[G4] **** Error: Volume does not exist ****
[G4]  Ignoring confine condition
==================

This is okay, but I suggest you skip this line in the example. This part can be confusing for beginners, so I've removed the reference to confinement in this example in the wiki. By default, there is no confinement, so the line "/confine NULL" line is not necessary. If you want to know about confinement, you can refer to the chapter about source management.

Referring to
http://wiki.opengatecollaboration.org/index.php/Users_Guide_V6.1:Defining_a_geometry,
when I input "/gate/world/describe", it shows:
==================
Nb of moves:       1

GATE object:        'world/placement'
Is enabled?         Yes
Move type:     placement
Translation:       0 0 0 fm
Rotation axis:     (0,0,0)
Rotation angle:    0 deg

Nb of repeaters:       0
==================
rather than the messages listed in the users guide.

I've updated the image in the wiki to reflect what is shown in Gate v6.1.

Also, the command "/gate/world/daughters/info" shows nothing.

You are correct. I took a quick look at the source code, but I cannot find why the command is not working. In any case, you can safely ignore this step. Just refer to the documentation to see what shapes are allowed for daughter volumes.

In addition, the warning :
==================
G4PhysicalVolumeModel::Validate() called.
 Volume of the same name and copy number ("world_phys", copy 0) still
exists and is being used.
 WARNING: This does not necessarily guarantee it's the same
 volume you originally specified in /vis/scene/add/.
==================
appears again and again.

This question appears again and again on the mailing list. You can safely ignore this warning.

I hope this helps!
Marc

Dear All,

I am a newbie and I am using Gate v6.1 with Geant4 9.4.p02. I am trying to
follow the example listed in
http://wiki.opengatecollaboration.org/index.php/Users_Guide_V6.1:Getting_started

When I input "/gate/systems/cylindricalPET/module/attach box2 vglue 0.2cm",

is it normal?

Thanks
Victor
