[Gate-users] Simulations getting stuck

I am using GATE v5.0.0 p01 on Ubuntu to simulate a PET scanner with two line
sources. One of the sources is in the field of view, the other is out of
the field of view and has a much higher activity (somewhere between 30 and
130 times higher). Background activity from the crystals is not being
modeled. During a full simulation, the detectors are rotating around the
source in the field of view.

A problem I have been running into is that sometimes the simulations get
stuck without finishing. When I rerun the simulation, it stops at the same
exact point (ie same exact file size) as the time before. However, each
simulation that does gets stuck, does so at a range of file sizes from each
other. This happens whether I am visualizing or not, whether I am starting
it from my Linux or remotely, whether the simulation is the only process
running or not, and (seemingly) random regardless of the activity in either
line source.
