Thank you for the answer.

The biggest difference is that Geant4 9.5 allows using CMake files.
Consequently one doesn't need to set zillions of environmental
variables to make Geant4 applications to run. One is enough.

I have tried to create CMakeLists.txt for Gate, but I'm not yet sure
how to include Root libraries. The rest seems to almost work
(configuration step runs fine).

If you will be working on adapting Gate to CMake and adding support
for Qt (very very very desired feature), please let me know.
