Dear Colleague,
Within the VipIMAGE Conference we are organizing the Thematic Session
“_*Digital Mammography*_”.
The International Conference *VipIMAGE 2011 - III ECCOMAS THEMATIC
CONFERENCE ON COMPUTATIONAL VISION AND MEDICAL IMAGE PROCESSING*that
will be held in Real Marina Hotel & Spa, Olhão, Algarve, Portugal, on
October 12-14, 2011.
*Description
*
Breast cancer is a deadly disease and one of the types with higher
incidence. It is asymptomatic at earlier stages, but it has a high
survival rate at this stage. Studies have indicated that cure rates
dramatically increase if the breast lesion can be detected at a size
less than 1 centimeter, which is too small for the lesion to be
palpable. The only way a small lesion like this can be detected is
through screening mammography. However, traditional screen-film
mammography is limited in its ability to detect some cancers, especially
those occurring in women with radiographically “dense” breasts. For this
reason, extensive research efforts to improve mammography have
occurred.Digital mammography was developed in part to address some of
the limitations of screen film mammography for cancer detection.
The aim of this thematic session is to present and discuss recent
developments and future prospects in some fields of digital mammography
and to bring together multidisciplinary approaches.
*Topics of interest include *(but are not restricted to)*:*
* Full-Field Digital Mammography (FFDM)
* Computer-Aided Detection & Discrimination (CAD)
* Multi-Modality Breast Imaging Techniques (MRI, PET, FFDM, etc.)
* Tomosynthesis and Computed Tomography Breast Imaging
* Digital Image Processing in mammography
* Clinical Applications of Digital Breast Imaging Systems
*Publications
*
The *book of proceedings will be published by Taylor & Francis Group*.
The organizers will encourage the submission of extended versions of the
accepted papers to related International Journals; in particular for
special issues dedicated to the conference.
A *book with 20 invited extended works* from the most important ones
presented in conference will be *published by SPRINGER*.
*Awards*
"Best paper award" and "best student paper award" are going to be given
to the author(s) of two papers presented at the conference, selected by
the Organizing Committee based on the best combined marks from the
Scientific Committee and Session Chairs.
*Submission Instructions:***
