[Gate-users] Binary output in Gate

Hello,

Is there any way of getting binary output of PET data other than ROOT format?

As far as I understand it, the only option is to work with ROOT but this requires some significant ROOT skills and sometimes one would like to include data in other programs, such as IDL, and on the same time avoid the large ASCII files. I would suggest to the steering committee to add a choice of a binary output will all data that prints out in the ASCII file written in a standard binary format with the records specified. This will reduce the disk requirements a lot. In addition to this some kind of selection of subsets of typical data would be appreciated. One do not always need all data that is available from the ASCII file.

Another ways is to in detail specify the root file format so I can access the file without using root? I have not found such specification, however.
