[Gate-users] [Gate-devel] Can voxlelized and non-voxelized phantoms be simulated together?

Thanks all for comments.
 
To summarize, 
1) currently there are no overlap phantoms allowed in GATE, even if both are non-voxelized and mother and daughter (I checked it with G4 tracking segmentation);
2) we can have non-overlapped phantoms, voxelized or non-voxelized or both;
3) GATE may modify the Phantom module using G4AssemblyVolume method to allow overlap phantoms in the future.
 
Am I missing something?

Hi Chen,
Have you tried to use G4AssemblyVolume? It is a class which allows
several volumes to be combined in an arbitrary way in 3D space.

Geant4 doesn't allow for overlaps of volumes, i.e. if you place a 
non-voxelized phantom in a voxelized phantom the outcome is undefined.
To my knowledge logic operations between voxelized and non-voxelized 
phantoms are not possible.
For fictitious volumes I can tell you for sure that it doesn't work.
It might work for the sources (I would guess that they are added).
