Hi gaters,
From my recent experience, you should evaluate the option of installing on VirtualBox 3.0.4 rather than VMware Server 2.0.
For now, the only real limitation of VirtualBox is that you need to have Virtualisation hardware capability (this mean a recent computer, with recent bios, with Intel-VT-x or AMD-V instructions availaible).
After you have install the virtualisation software, you can install an OS (I will recomended you Ubuntu 8.10+, x86, with a kernel 2.6.27+, you can also use Ubuntu 8.4 / 2.6.24, or in fact any distribution you have already use) and after what you install GATE like in any other computer.
best regards,
Samuel Burg

Apparently everyone.
