One good way to test openGL is to use the program "glxgears" which
should pop up a window showing 3 coloured gears rotating. A modern
machine with a basic video card should get above 500 frames per second
(my e8400 gets >3000 FPS), and you should get no error messages.
I had a similar problem with Gate visualisation crashing X-Windows,
turned out the ATI video driver installer broke something, so I had to
manually install the driver (on Scientific Linux v 5.1)

Hi.
1. When starting interactively Gate, do you get in initial screen BOTH
last
lines:
Current available graphics systems are:
.
OpenGLImmediateX (OGLIX)
OpenGLStoredX (OGLSX)
If just OGLIX, you cannot use OGLSX. The second, I think, more relies on
OpenGL support of your graphic card.
2. Check that your graphic card supports OpenGL (look on the box it came
with, or try some VRML OpenGL using viewer), and if it does, that you
have installed drivers for OpenGL for your graphic card in Linux.

Subject: [Gate-users] visualization error when I use OGLSX
Hi all,
I installed geant 4.9 and gate 3.1.2 successfully yesterday.
Everything was OK when I use
/vis/open OGLIX and draw volumes
but when I use
/vis/open OGLSX
and
/vis/drawVolume
the whole system blank out (black) and then the screen showed the user
log in interface. my account was forced to log off.
Does anyone know what's wrong with it ?
