[root at diguerr5 ~]# cd  /scratch/gate/gate_v3.1.2/root_v5.14.00h/
[root at diguerr5 root_v5.14.00h]# setenv ROOTSYS /usr/local/gate/gate_v3.1.2/root_v5.14.00h/root/
bash: setenv: command not found
~~~~~~~~ you use bash, but "setenv" is a command under csh/tcsh, you can use command "export" under bash or change your shell to csh/tcsh
[root at diguerr5 root_v5.14.00h]#
