I tried so much times to install root 5.14 with gcc 4.1.2 and always get :
cint/src/gcc3strm.cxx: In function ‘int G__G__stream_7_7_0(G__value*, const char*, G__param*, int)’:
cint/src/gcc3strm.cxx:311: error: ‘class std::fpos<__mbstate_t>’ has no member named ‘operator==’
cint/src/gcc3strm.cxx: In function ‘int G__G__stream_7_8_0(G__value*, const char*, G__param*, int)’:
cint/src/gcc3strm.cxx:317: error: ‘class std::fpos<__mbstate_t>’ has no member named ‘operator!=’
make: *** [cint/src/gcc3strm.o] Error 1
I found out on forums that it was from my computer using gcc 4.1...isn`t it?
I also tried the symlinks but still got conflicts with librairies.
Anyway i`ll try again and again...
thank you .
dounia.

You need to point the g++ (or gcc) symbolic link (/usr/local/bin/) on
the right gcc version
But basically you can use gcc 4.1 to compile gate3.1.2 and root 5.14
