Hi Elfatih,

benchmarkPET.mac is a GATE macro and not a ROOT macro. The ROOT macro is 
called benchmarkPET.C

To run the ROOT macro, either you start directly root with the macro:

   root  benchmarkPET.C

or, inside root:

.x benchmarkPET.C
