Dear Marcin,

the stepLength corresponds to the length from last interaction until the detection in the sensitive volume.

The complete tracklength can also be found in the Hits tree in root starting from Gate 8.0.

This would then be from creation of the particle until detection (length of all steps summed).

Find some more information here: http://wiki.opengatecollaboration.org/index.php/Users_Guide:Data_output

stepLength[mm]: The distance between two interactions of a particle (e.g.: distance between a gamma particle entering a sensitive volume and being scattered)

trackLength[mm]: (available starting Gate 8.0) The total distance of one particle often including multiple steps. Can also be derived by the trackLocalTime.
Dear Gate user,

As I simulate Cherenkov Photons to make my GATE Singles. I would like to
know if the time information (t1 and t2) written in the root output
correspond to the first Cherenkov Photon detected in each direction or if
it is an integration time of all the ChP per/ 511 keV inicial back to back
gamma, in each direction....

The time information from Singles (t1 and t2) has direct influence in my
one analysis for estimate ChP coincidences and TOF. I use that TOF in the
image reconstruction method MLP (Most likely position) and also for
incorporate TOF in CASToR reconstruction I need to add the difference in
time arrival of the Singels....

Any clarification about what is in fact written in the root Gate output
Singels time information when you are working with Cerenkov Photons, I
would really appreciate....

Kind regards,

Hi Gaters and Uwe.

I have a question to Hits.dat ascii file produced in PET scanner simulation.
Below is the image of the table taken from Hits.dat. In two last rows are
data for photoelectric event in high density material like LSO with Lu atom.

You can see that stepLength for photoelectric event is 8.5 mm, which for a
63 keV photon in LSO is highly unlikely. My question is what does step
length associated with first hit in the crystal really correspond to? Is it
a path in the crystal until the photoelectric event, so the step length is
counted only within crystal which is in my case a sensitive detector?

Regards
