fortunate enough to get some computing time on Blue Joule – the <st1:country-region
w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">UK</st1:place></st1:country-region>’s
largest supercomputer – and they are planning to run GATE simulations of
proton and photon radiotherapy plans. Previously, we’ve been using a
small cluster and have been using GATE for 18 months or so. The intention now is
to get some high accuracy dose statistics for organs at risk that are far from
the treatment volume. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

font-family:Arial'>However, we are having some problems getting GATE compiled
on this supercomputer. It is an IBM BlueGene/Q system which has compute nodes
which use 64-bit PowerPC processors. According to various messageboards, ROOT
cannot work on PowerPC architectures. So, I’m wondering, has anybody had
any experience compiling GATE without ROOT? Is this even possible? Can we get
away with using inputs and outputs which aren’t in ROOT format?<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
