A solution would be either to modify the interfile reader GATE class and change the data format of the definition of the expected phantom that Interfile reader is going to insert into GATE or simply write a small script which will transform the data type of your phantom to unsigned short integer. Make sure that the modifications are reflected to the header file of the modified binary. I am attaching you my script version which transforms a float (4byte) array into an unsigned short integer array.
